Chickpea’s Journey
Chickpea began her new life…
lovingly cared for by a group of Green Zone guards, who had to unfortunately give her up at the last minute, as the situation for everyone in the Middle East becomes increasingly unstable. ISARO’s Ibrahim Umani of Phoenix Vet Clinic received the call on a late Saturday afternoon. Chickpea (named Nina by the soldiers) had two hours before it was back on the streets of Iraq. From Iraq, England and Vietnam, ISARO coordinated Chickpea’s pickup at the Green Zone Entrance, thanks to volunteer, Munked. then have a place to stay at the Vet Hands clinic in Jihad, due to the care and concern of our friend, Bilal.
Ultimately, all of us at ISARO knew that Chickpea couldn’t stay at Vet Hands for an extended time. A taxi from Baghdad to Erbil was arranged and another ISARO volunteer, Reband, transported Chickpea to her foster home at Amal Pets in Vital Village. Chickpea is kind, gentle, follows orders well (she was trained by U.S. Marines) and makes friends quickly. She looking for an active, experienced owner or a family with children to call her forever home. Chickpea has her vaccines, but needs a blood test and a pet passport to travel to the EU, UK, GCC or US, which ISARO providers can furnish in exchange for their fees. To stay in Iraq, she needs her fees covered and a contract stipulating her safety and welfare signed.
Situations such as Chickpea’s rescue and rehoming is our aim for all dogs and cats who come to ISARO for help. We couldn’t do our work without our dedicated Iraqi and Syrian animal lovers and we couldn’t do it without the financial help of our friends and family overseas.
